Mahaperiyava
Sri Chandrashekarendra Saraswathi Swamigal
Maithree, the name is inspired from the heart melting song “Maithreem Bhajatha Akhila Hrijetreem…” sung by Bharat Ratna M.S. Subbhulakshmi in the U.N. The foundation of Maithree lies at the feet of the Mahatma who penned this song, the Paramacharya of Kanchi, the 68th pontiff of Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam Sri Chandrashekarendra Saraswathi Swamigal called as Mahaperiyava.
With his grace, thoughts began to blossom in the minds of a few culturally committed women in Nurani Agraharam on the dilutions happening in the cultural front. For millennia, women have preserved the culture and traditions of Bharat by actively practicing and propagating them through a silent intangible movement. Kolams(drawings made in the front yard with rice flour) and Kholus(keeping dolls during Sarada Navarathri) thrived in households when monuments were shattered at the hands of invaders. This invincibility was due to invisibility of the feminine activity.
To develop a commitment in young minds to be a link in the unbroken chain of civilization as a means to extend it to the future is the sole purpose.
Guruvaibhavam, the most prestigeous event hosted by Maithree, every year as a tribute to the legendary composers of Carnatic music.
A group of trained kids present the songs to the audience at Nurani Village. They are supported by appropriate instrumental accompaniments played by well-known artists of Palakkad and in ambience set for the audience to enjoy the musical evening.
Our Guru
Maithree's search for a trainer for Guruvaibhavam ended with Sri. Sreenivasan Gopalakrishnan, a Carnatic musician vocalist, who wholeheartedly dedicates his time and energy to train our participants.
Guruvaibhavam 2026 - 6th season - Sri Bhadrachala Ramadasu Kritis - Registration Open NOW!
Guruvaibhavam 2026 will title Sri Bhadrachala Ramadasu as its composer. He was a 17th-century devotee of Rama, a saint-poet and a composer of Carnatic music. He is a famous Vaggeyakara (classical composer) from the Telugu classical era. He was born in the village of Nelakondapalli in Khammam district, and orphaned as a teenager. He spent his later years in Bhadrachalam and 12 years in solitary confinement at the Golconda prison during the Qutb Shahi rule. Different mythical stories about his life circulate in the Telugu tradition. He is renowned for constructing the famous Sita Ramachandraswamy Temple and pilgrimage center on the banks of river Godavari at Bhadrachalam. His devotional kirtana lyrics to Rama illustrate the classical Pallavi, Anupallavi and Charanam genre composed mostly in Telugu, some in Sanskrit and with occasional use of Tamil language. These are famous in South Indian classical music as Ramadaasu Keertanalu.
We welcome all the music aspirants to register and join, to promote, and to bless the whole team for a grand event in a much bigger scale and perfection than in the previous years.
